Day4 – Lake Crossing from Arenal to Monteverde
Arenal Lake is the largest and most important lake in Costa Rica. It was man-made, in 1974, to provide hydroelectric energy for the country. It is the home of different kinds of resident and migratory birds, including flycatchers, kingfishers, great blue herons, and the anhinga. Some mammals, such as howler monkeys, can also be spotted on its banks. On clear days, the views of the volcano seen from the lake are spectacular.
Now enjoy a Canopy Tour in Monteverde. You will visit a 28ha/70acre private reserve located near the marvelous region of Monteverde, only a short drive from downtown Santa Elena. The tour begins with a short, guided hike that will take you through primary (old growth) and secondary (new growth) forests. Once you arrive at the beginning of the zip line system, your guides will provide you with all the necessary equipment (helmets, vests, and gloves) and impart a safety orientation before your adventure begins.
You will fly through the treetops, becoming one with the canopy as you glide at a heart-racing pace down 15 steel cables (ranging from 60mts/197ft. to 800mts/2624ft. in length) anchored to tree platforms. During your journey, you will have the opportunity to do some wildlife spotting, especially when it comes to bird species. The forests in Monteverde are teeming with life and this zip line tour gives you the chance to observe this precious ecosystem from a unique perspective. At the end of your canopy run, you will have the option of enjoying some rappel; descending the ‘Scary Tree’ (the name of this tree says it all!).
Return to your hotel.
